The commercial and industrial sector is as diverse and vibrant as any other sector of the economy.

Delivering programs like Energy
Management, Prescriptive, Custom, Direct Install, and Pay-for-Performance that optimize
equipment, improve business processes, and offer upgrades to new technology are a few of the
ways EMC Insights works with our partners through program design to help their customers
reduce energy costs and strengthen their competitive position.Delivering programs like Energy Management, Prescriptive, Custom, Direct Install, and Pay-for-Performance that optimize equipment, improve business processes, and offer upgrades to new technology are a few of the ways EMC Insights works with our partners through program design to help their customers reduce energy costs and strengthen their competitive position.

We collaborate closely with our partners across North America to develop creative solutions to continuously improve program delivery. Like you, they’re committed to energy savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and they want results, fast. Our approach combines policy expertise with technical and behavioral insights to overcome roadblocks and ensure your success. Our team of experts is able to research and implement pilots, cultivate energy-saving behaviors, and onboard new technologies. As an experienced partner, we’re here to work with you to design energy solutions that are accessible, equitable, and create a clear path toward meeting your goals. Our staff’s diverse skill set allows us to help research, discover, and design programs that optimally serve both broad or targeted groups of customers.

EMC Insights’ expert staff is here to:

  • Offer our deep understanding and experience with grid integration to help you meet aggressive targets
  • Provide technical consulting through detailed engineering analysis, programmatic data analytics, or project-specific measurement and verification
  • Design and deliver custom outreach strategies, spanning from customer education and engagement to enrollment to comprehensive project coordination and management
  • Assist with program savings development, measure characterization, and program cost effectiveness testing

Advanced M&V

Advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) investment is real, and can be leveraged by skilled evaluators to supplement, build-upon, or even replace traditional M&V.

EMC Insights’ Advanced M&V models, tools, and protocols are designed to take advantage of more widely available electric and natural gas AMI investments. We use AMI data to verify program savings, as well as provide deeper insights into the time-value of efficiency resources. EMC Insights’ library of advanced M&V tools has the capability to both utilize traditional statistical modeling and adapt newer algorithms, such as artificial neural networks, from other industries to improve evaluation accuracy while reducing costs.

Benefits of EMC Insights’ Advanced M&V Tools:

  • Tested and cross validated models compliant with IPMVP, NMEC, ASHRAE, and CALTRACK.
  • Leverage existing AMI and customer operational data to improve accuracy
  • Transparent, well documented, and proven modeling techniques

Trade Ally and Service Providers Management

EMC Insights takes an intentional approach to working with contractors.

Our staff has recruited and supported hundreds of independent contractors, distributors, and retailers, providing varied services ranging from program education to professional training to project coordination support. We work to ensure that our staff is trained on all relevant programs to ensure that the contractor receives holistic support. This results in better outcomes, better customer experiences, and lower program costs.

Our approach to contractor management means that customer incentives are just a part of a comprehensive vision for a market-based approach to program design. EMC Insights provides training and support to manufacturers, vendors, technicians, contractors, and other trade allies and regional partners up and down the supply chain. This gives the private sector the opportunity to meaningfully participate in clean energy, and results in a flexible, responsive marketplace that delivers energy-efficiency solutions at scale.

EMC Insights’ contractor management services include:

  • Ongoing education, training, and enrollment of contractors or as members of a contractor network
  • Hosting members-only events such as regular calls with businesses doing similar work and appreciation events
  • Ensuring contractor qualifications are maintained through ongoing, technology-specific training
  • Tracking and reporting contractor projects
  • Working with contractors to ensure they are dedicated to customer satisfaction and helping end-use customers save energy and money
  • Providing a direct line to EMC Insights experts when contractors are on the job; we answer questions about incentive eligibility, project design, engineering, and more
  • Providing a continuous feedback loop based on what we hear and learn from contractors

Engineering & Inspection

Measuring savings with accurate engineering models and inspections increases trust in program results.

EMC Insights’ quality assurance protocols are both internal and external, and include documenting quality assurance to the client, regulator, and other interested parties.

EMC InsightsOur team uses quality assurance protocols to mitigate various risks including custom commercial and industrial projects to verify accuracy in savings assumptions based on site documentation. We provide complete engineering and inspection services in support of performance contracts or other projects where proven energy savings are required. We ensure that our quality assurance aligns with external impact evaluation and addresses issues before year-end close. Our engineering staff has performed short and long-term monitoring at numerous facilities. We are experienced with leading measurement and evaluation (M&V) protocols, including the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP), the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) application of the protocol, and California’s Standard Performance Contract (SPC) protocols. Our metering capabilities allow us to complete Option B approaches for verifying savings at a relatively lower cost. We are also experts at using analytical software for performing whole building billing analyses (IPMVP Option C) and at performing calibrated simulation verifications (IPMVP Option D).

Recognized Benefit:

  • Established EMC Insights as a trusted partner
  • Accurate measurement and verification of program impacts, thus mitigating risk
  • Effective and efficient site inspection and metering services
  • Access to large tool crib of metering devices

Retrocommissioning

Buildings often don’t operate exactly as intended, leaving significant amounts of money on the table for building owners.

Retrocommissioning studies strive to ensure that your building is operating at peak performance. Optimized buildings reduce operating costs, while maintaining or improving occupant comfort. EMC Insights’ team of experienced engineers dig deep into facility controls, schedules, maintenance, and overall operation to find low cost and no cost improvements.

We offer several types of studies geared towards different types of customers:

  • RCx Lite: Tailored to small and medium buildings 150,000 ft2 or less
  • Retrocommissioning: Larger studies for larger buildings with more complicated systems, controls, and needs
  • Auto-RCx: Similar to RCx lite, but completed entirely remotely. Interval data, building automation system data, and a phone interview is all that’s required
